Councillor Jane Mudd is the Leader of Newport City Council and portfolio holder for Strategic Finance and Economic Growth. Jane is a Vice Chair of CCR and portfolio holder for Data driven Economy and Skills; she also represents the region on the CCR Regional Skills Partnership Board and is also the Vice Chair of the South East Wales Corporate Joint Committee. Jane is the Deputy Chair of the cross border Western Gateway economic partnership and a member of the Key Cities Executive board.
With over 20 years’ experience in higher education and research, Jane has a background in Housing and Regeneration. She was formerly the Head of the Department of Social Policy at Cardiff Metropolitan University and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and former Chair of CIH Cymru, she also served as an Independent member of the Regulatory Board for Housing (Wales) and is a former Board Chair of Newport City Homes.
Jane is Deputy Presiding Officer of the Welsh Local Government Association and is a WLGA Social Justice spokesperson. Councillor Mudd is also the lead WLGA Spokesperson for Digital and Innovation, Chair of the WLGA Digital Leadership Board and is also a member of the LGA Improvement Board. Jane has been a key contributor to the WLGA/LGA Civility in Public Life and Diversity in Democracy campaigns. She is also the WLGA co-chair of the WLGA Safer Communities Board.
