“Are We There Yet?”: A Roadmap to Better Infrastructure for Wales

18 September 2019

Location: Norwegian Church Arts Centre Harbour Drive Cardiff Bay CF10 4PA

Time: 8:00am - 9:30am

We would like to invite you to the breakfast launch of our new report, “Are We There Yet?”: A Roadmap to Better Infrastructure for Wales

Breakfast (bacon, sausage and glamorgan sausage rolls) will be provided and there will be an opportunity to network afterwards

What do SMEs want from infrastructure? How do we all organise our efforts in Wales toward sustainable and successful infrastructure that promotes small business growth?

The report will look at what SMEs want from infrastructure, how new and old institutions in Wales can work together to provide the best foundation for Welsh business, and how we can react to uncertainties around finance and governance within that strategy.

Whether it be the M4, rail electrification, tidal energy, or Wylfa power station, infrastructure is complex, multi-layered, and necessarily risky. It cuts across governments from local to UK, requires long-term investment and planning, and forms part of the need to make our contribution to reducing carbon emissions by 2050.

We have seen a lot of controversy around infrastructure in Wales recently.

How would you plan for an infrastructure for 2050? What assumptions would you be able to make?

While we may often decry problems as uniquely Welsh, the failure to bring infrastructure projects to fruition, or within budget, is a global issue. There are lessons we can learn from how other countries have learnt from their mistakes, and are providing a clear long-term infrastructure strategy.

Hoffem eich gwahodd i lansiad brecwast ein hadroddiad newydd, “Ydyn Ni Yno Eto?”: Map i Seilwaith Gwell i Gymru.

Bydd brecwast yn cael ei ddarparu.

Beth mae busnesau bach a chanolig angen gan isadeiledd? Sut ydym ni i gyd yn trefnu ein hymdrechion yng Nghymru tuag at seilwaith cynaliadwy a llwyddiannus sy’n helpu twf busnesau bach?

Bydd yr adroddiad yn edrych ar yr hyn y mae busnesau bach a chanolig ei eisiau gan isadeiledd, sut y gall sefydliadau hen a newydd yng Nghymru weithio gyda’i gilydd i ddarparu’r sylfaen orau ar gyfer busnes Cymru, a sut y gallwn ymateb i’r ansicrwydd presennol ynghylch cyllid a llywodraethu o fewn y strategaeth honno.

Dim ots os yw’n yr M4, trydaneiddio rheilffyrdd, ynni llanw, neu orsaf bŵer Wylfa, mae adeiladu seilwaith yn gymhleth, yn aml-haenog, ac o reidrwydd yn meddwl risg. Mae’n torri ar draws llywodraethau o’r lleol i San Steffan, yn gofyn am fuddsoddiad a chynllunio tymor hir, ac mae’n rhan o’r angen i wneud ein cyfraniad at leihau defnydd carbon erbyn 2050.

Rydym wedi gweld llawer o ddadlau ynghylch seilwaith yng Nghymru yn ddiweddar.

Sut fyddech chi’n cynllunio ar gyfer seilwaith ar gyfer 2050? Pa ragdybiaethau fyddech chi’n eu gwneud?

Er y gallwn yn aml feddwl am problemau fel rhai unigryw sy’n unigryw i Gymru, mae’r methiant i ddwyn prosiectau seilwaith i orffen, neu o fewn y gyllideb, yn fater byd-eang. Mae yna wersi y gallwn eu dysgu o’r ffordd y mae gwledydd eraill wedi dysgu o’u camgymeriadau, ac maent yn darparu strategaeth seilwaith hirdymor glir.
