Cardiff Capital Region showcase investment opportunities at its ‘Regionally Unleashed Torfaen’ event

Following in the footsteps of Caerphilly and Bridgend in 2023, Cardiff Capital Region hosted its third Regionally Unleashed in Torfaen, a working breakfast designed to bring together regional businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers to hear about investment opportunities and CCR’s funds available to them.

Attendees heard from George Richards, Senior Director of CBRE which manages the £50m Strategic Premises Fund and Phil Sampson, Director of Deals Wales, PwC shared how the £50m Innovation Investment Capital fund is explicitly designed to help scale innovative SME success in South East Wales. Both funds act as a catalyst for sustainable good growth in the Region.

Rhiannon Thomas, CEO of Human Data Sciences, shared how CCR investments have helped their research and development. She also talked about how businesses often don’t know what funding options exist or how to access them and coming to an event like this can help people can hear about others who have already received support from CCR.

Nicola Denning, CCR Project Manager talked about the Cluster Development and Growth Programme and the ambitions and wealth of skills based programmes in the Region, with academic and industry partnerships forging the way.

Kellie Beirne, Chief Executive, Cardiff Capital Region said:

“It was such an uplifting and positive morning, with different representatives from regional businesses, entrepreneurs, developers, public sector and government, plus the different agencies that CCR works with.

We are all here to sustainably grow the economy of South East Wales and to talk about the needs of businesses on the ground whether that be supply chain support, growth through digitisation, or skills support.”

Cllr Anthony Hunt, Leader, Torfaen County Borough Council & Chair of CCR Committee, said:

“The spirit of these events is to create a ‘One Stop Shop’ to help people connect, network and understand how we can be the catalyst to help and support their business development and growth, creating new jobs and increasing prosperity in the Region. Central to this is fostering innovation, workspace development and employment opportunities.”
