On Thursday 4 July, Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) in collaboration with the Cyber Innovation Hub and Tramshed Tech, Newport, hosted an action-packed day of learning, networking and site visits for a group of delegates from Ireland.

The purpose of the visit was to give delegates an opportunity to understand the cyber ecosystem within the Region and get a real sense of our hands-on skills development, academic-industry partnerships, business incubation and production acceleration.

The delegation visited the Cyber Innovation Hub to see firsthand the emerging cyber testbed facilities before heading to Tramshed Tech at Innovation Station, Newport. There the group heard from Welsh Government about their Cyber Action Plan for Wales.  In addition, visitors were given overviews from Thales and Airbus on their cyber innovation activities in Wales, the Soft-Landing programme by Tramshed Tech, before rounding things off with an introduction to the work of The Alacrity Foundation.

CCR’s Deputy Chief Executive, Rhys Thomas, spoke about our commitment to cyber and how we support businesses in the Region and those considering relocating.

He said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the British Irish Chamber of Commerce delegation and introduce Cardiff Capital Region, sharing who we are and how we support businesses. We believe our unique blend of academic-industry partnerships,  opportunities via our various funds and our pipeline of skills will see the Region grow and develop into a leading cyber cluster, with economic benefits for our partners, funders, and the wider community.”
