IIC funding deal for Transcend wins ‘Deal of the Year’ award

CCR’s £50m Innovation Investment Capital (IIC) has won a major commercial award in Wales, making it the second time in four months that a CCR-related fund has won such a prize. The Insider Wales Dealmakers Awards 2025 were held at Holland House in Cardiff in late September. The nomination was for the IIC funding of Transcend Packaging, the Caerphilly-based retail packaging manufacturing company that is now pioneering and introducing recyclable and home compostable paper cups and lids for Starbucks across Europe.

The category was the ‘Small Deal of the Year’, which saw IIC go up against major development banks, financial advisors and law and accountancy firms. The co-nominees in this award were Browne Jacobson, Capricorn Fund Managers and PwC.

This latest win follows the June 2025 award win for CCR and CBRE in the Insider Wales Property Awards as ‘Funder of the Year’.

Channing Nuss, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability and Co-Founder at Transcend Packaging says: “At Transcend Packaging, we are already receiving industry awards across the UK for our efforts to help global brands achieve their sustainability goals, so it’s wonderful to now see recognition for the funding that makes this innovation possible.

“The investment from Cardiff Capital Region has been instrumental in helping us bring these new products to market across Europe from our manufacturing base and HQ in Caerphilly. This award recognises not only Transcend’s pioneering R&D and experienced management and operational teams, but also the collaborative efforts of all the funding partners involved. Well done to everyone who helped make this investment possible as it will serve as a catalyst for further innovation and growth.”

CCR’s Chief Executive Kellie Beirne is delighted with this win:

“This award demonstrates the impact that CCR’s funding is having on innovation and jobs growth in our region. Economic wellbeing is at the heart of our objectives, supporting entrepreneurs and scale ups like Transcend to grow.”.
