Infuse Collision Space drives net zero innovation

Categories:

Cardiff Capital Region is working with management consultancy and social enterprise PPL to deliver the Infuse Collision Space: a programme designed to give people and organisations the skills and tools they need to accelerate the journey to net zero.

Infuse builds cross-sector innovation expertise to support new models of service delivery across the Cardiff Capital Region. The collision space brought the public, voluntary, and private sectors together to collaborate and explore the challenge:

How can we support a just transition to net zero within public sector transportation across the Cardiff Capital Region?

Our Approach

Participants formed cross-sector teams to identify possible solutions to the challenge, test innovative ideas, and have the opportunity to pitch for funding to support ideas with the most potential.

Teams met on a weekly basis to update on progress as well as attending milestone events and ‘inspiration sessions’ to help challenge their thinking at key points in the programme. Throughout their journey, teams were connected with subject-matter experts in the form of ‘Associates’ to provide key support and guidance.

Emerging Impact

The Infuse Collision Space recently culminated in an Experiment Showcase, where participants were invited to ‘pitch’ their ideas to an audience of policymakers, business leaders, funders, and subject matter experts, with a view of securing funding and support to sustain their efforts beyond the end of the programme.

PPL and CCR will now work with participants to transform their potential ideas into reality, with an ambition to deliver long-term impact for the region.

Ideas tested include:

  • Exploring smart local energy trading
  • Public sector e-bike fleets
  • The development of a new public-private funding model to replace diesel vehicles with electric
  • Development of a regional travel hierarchy policy
  • Exploring smart local energy trading
  • Establishing a regional fleet collaboration community
  • Development an online collaboration tool prototype

I really appreciated the opportunity to pitch ideas to associates – public, private and third sector. Even though it is daunting, it also holds you to account and helps forge important cross-sector relationships and networks which helps us work differently and innovatively - which is the whole purpose of the programme!
