The Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) City Deal Regional Cabinet would like to address misinformed and mistaken comments which have been made following the ratification of the Deal last Wednesday (March 1).

Our capital city is the economic powerhouse for the city-region, and, indeed, the rest of Wales. But the City Deal will create social and economic benefits for the whole city-region, not just for Cardiff.

This is why every single local authority within the city-region has given its backing to the City Deal.

Through improved skills, housing regeneration, transport – notably the South Wales Metro, and better digital connectivity, we will create opportunities for all – from Chepstow in the east, to Bridgend in the west, and from Barry in the south, to Merthyr in the north.

This is a £1.2billion initiative which aims to generate 25,000 new jobs, and leverage an additional £4bn of private sector investment.

It is a transformative initiative, and one which the Regional Cabinet and officers have worked extremely hard to formalise, demonstrating a collaborative working approach never before seen in Wales.

The Regional Cabinet is delighted to have finalised this City Deal, and will continue its work to deliver those opportunities for all within the city-region.
