Applications are now open to businesses seeking access to research, development and innovation in Cardiff Capital Region’s Academic-Industry Partnership programme.

This programme is jointly funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and Cardiff Capital Region (CCR) as part of CCR’s Cluster Growth and Development Programme. The Academic-Industry Partnerships bring industry and academia together to identify innovative solutions to enterprise challenges.

Get involved

CCR is working with the University of South Wales as the lead institution and with consortium delivery partners, Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University. All partners will bring business and academic expertise together to deliver impactful R&D outcomes to build a stronger, bigger, and more resilient regional economy.

The programme will support businesses – particularly micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises – to adopt new or improved products, services, technology, and processes. Businesses will be matched with tailored academic expertise to develop business solutions and improve quality of operations to encourage access to new markets.

How does the programme work?

The programme will part-fund 25 short and targeted R&D partnerships, each supported by up to £14,000 funding in addition to 10% match funding from micro and small enterprises or 25% match funding from medium and large enterprises.

Free industry support will be available in a series of in-person events and workshops held across the Region, with opportunities to network with other organisations from CCR’s clusters, including compound semiconductors, cyber security, medtech, fintech, and the creative industries.

How to apply

Applications are now open to organisations who have submitted an Expression of Interest. Applications operate on three rolling deadline windows subject to remaining available funding:

  • Round 1: 20 May – 31 May 2024
  • Round 2: 3 June – 14 June 2024
